Why Meta requires a Business or Creator account

Understand why a personal Instagram login returns no analytics, and what changes when you switch your account type.

If you have ever tried to connect a personal Instagram account to any analytics product and ended up with empty charts, this is why.

Personal accounts return no insights

Meta does not expose analytics for personal Instagram accounts. Not to us, not to any other tool, not to you inside the Instagram app beyond the basics. Reach, impressions, saves, video views, retention — none of it is available to a personal account through Meta's official integration. There is no workaround. No tool can show data Meta does not return.

Business or Creator unlocks the data

Switching to a Business or Creator account is free, reversible, and takes under a minute. Both account types unlock the same analytics surface. The choice between them is mostly about positioning — Creator is tuned for individual public figures, Business is tuned for brands and stores. Either works for Wysestats.

You change account type from inside the Instagram mobile app under Settings → Account type and tools. Once switched, future post insights become available. Posts published before the switch will not gain insights retroactively.

What we ask for, and what we do not

Connection happens through Meta's official integration. We request only what is needed for analytics:

  • The ability to read insights for the accounts you choose.
  • The ability to list the Pages you manage, because Instagram Business and Creator accounts attach to a Facebook Page.
  • The ability to see public profile information so charts can label themselves.

That is the full scope. We do not post on your behalf. We do not read direct messages. We do not read comment content beyond what Meta's official integration returns publicly.

Why you log in to Facebook, not Instagram

The Instagram connection is a Meta connection. Meta means logging in via Facebook, even though the data being pulled is from Instagram. This catches almost everyone the first time. If the connection screen sends you to Facebook and you were expecting an Instagram login, that is correct.
