Setup & Connections

Connecting on behalf of a client

Connect an Instagram account once for a client when you do not need long-term Meta Business access.

This page covers the freelancer and contractor case: one client, one account, no ongoing Meta Business setup with them. If you manage many clients and want repeatable access, the agency path is better.

Two viable approaches

Approach 1 — screen-share the connection step

You drive Wysestats. The client logs in to Facebook on their end during the connection window. You both see the picker, you confirm the right Instagram account is selected, the client clicks confirm. Two minutes total.

Pre-call checklist to send the client:

  • Confirm their Instagram account is Business or Creator, not Personal.
  • Confirm they can log in to the Facebook account that manages the Page their Instagram is linked to.
  • Have both browser windows ready before the call.

Approach 2 — client connects, then hands off

The client signs in to Wysestats themselves, runs the connection flow with their own Facebook session, then transfers the work to you afterwards.

Note: shared workspace access is not yet shipped. For now, this means manual hand-off — the client signs out, you sign in to the same Wysestats account. This is fine for short engagements but obviously not ideal for ongoing work.

Why we cannot do this without the client

Meta requires the human who owns or manages the Page to grant the connection from their own Meta session. There is no server-side workaround, no token transfer, no admin override. This is a Meta policy, not a Wysestats limitation.

The most common confusion

Clients almost always try to log in to Instagram instead of Facebook. The connection screen looks like an Instagram authorization, but the actual login is on Facebook because Instagram Business and Creator accounts authorize through Meta's Facebook side. If the client says "this is asking for my Facebook password, that's wrong" — it is not wrong. Walk them through it.
