Instagram reconnect required

What the reconnect banner means, how to clear it, and what to expect during the gap.

If a banner across the top of the app asks you to reconnect Instagram, the connection has lost authorization on Meta's side. The account is still listed in Wysestats and your historical data is intact — but daily refreshes pause until you reconnect.

What the banner means

Meta access tokens expire on a regular cadence, and Meta can also revoke access when something changes upstream — a password reset, a permission change inside Meta Business Suite, a Page admin swap, or a security event. Any of these cause the same banner.

While the banner is up:

  • existing data and reports stay where they are
  • new daily refreshes do not run
  • new posts may not appear until you reconnect

How to reconnect

  1. Click the banner, or open Account → Connections.
  2. Find the affected Instagram account in the list.
  3. Click Reconnect next to that account.
  4. Complete Meta's authorization flow fully — accept all the same Pages and Instagram accounts you connected the first time. Deselecting one removes it from Wysestats.
  5. Return to Wysestats. The banner clears within a few seconds.

The full walkthrough lives in Reconnect or disconnect.

What to expect after reconnecting

The next scheduled daily refresh fills in everything Meta still serves — recent posts, fresh insights, the catch-up on whatever was missed during the outage. Anything that aged out of Meta's retention window during the gap is not recoverable. See Account history and data gaps for the underlying explanation.

You do not need to manually trigger anything. Your dashboards update on the normal cadence.

When reconnect repeatedly fails

If you complete Meta's flow and the banner immediately returns, the most common cause is a permissions mismatch on Meta's side rather than a Wysestats problem.

Check your role on the Facebook Page. Reconnecting requires admin-level access to the Facebook Page that the Instagram account is attached to. If you are an editor or analyst on the Page rather than an admin, Meta will let you complete the flow but Wysestats will not receive working access.

Check which login persona you are using. If you manage multiple agency or client accounts under different Meta Business identities, the persona currently signed in to Meta may not have rights to the Page you need. Sign out of Meta in your browser, sign in with the correct persona, and try the reconnect again. See Connecting as part of a team for the team-access patterns.

If the right persona has admin access on the Page and the banner still returns, contact support with the Instagram handle and the time of the most recent attempt.
